Identify the type of lighting used in the film (traditional three-point, high-key, or low-key)

I would say that this film used low-key lighting. Because low key lighting is generally associated with horror films. Low key lighting is associated with heavy shadows and lighting only in specific areas, highlighted for specific effect. Low key lighting is a good way to create suspense, eeriness, and even seclusion.

What are the benefits of the style of lighting used?

This movie is full of scary scenes that involve killing and lots of blood which is why low key is used as a main lighting source. It creates suspense for the killing scenes and creates the eeriness with all the blood.

How did this technique contribute to the theme?

The low key lighting technique is absolutely great in this movie because the theme is horror with killing, which constitutes scarey and edge of your seat drama throughout the movie.

How was the lighting technique suited to the genre of the film?

Low lighting is generally used in such horror films because it helps make the viewers feels eery and scared.  Horror films want their audience to get into the movie by feeling scared and creeped out.

Compare how the scene would play if different choices had been made.

Well for instance in a documentary they use natural light because it beings a feel of realism to the audience. In horror the audience needs to feel scared and using low lighting provides this feel throughout the movie. If a horror movie was to use natural light the film will be to bright and will take away from the action by providing to much deterring the viewers eyes all over the picture instead of on the scene that provides lots of scary action like killing and blood.
